Geeknite evolution for 2017

We are already in 2017, our site will be 5 years old this year, and many things have happened and a lot of people has worked with us, the site has evolved in a different direction from how it was conceived initially as a gadgets and opinions blog to talking about gaming to a more sports oriented review site nowadays. This is a factor from the people who have worked with us and from our own life evolution as we grow older we worry about different things, yet we have always been open to talk about anything at GeekNite, so if you are willing to help and love our site you can work with us.
Of course this is not a goodbye post, this is a planning for this upcoming year, of what we want to talk about and what motivates us, what we have scheduled and how you could help us or how can you contribute.
We want to let you know our new Youtube channel, still trying to find our branding and how to best present our videos, but please let us know what would you love to see in our videos. We will be most pleased to hear from you about our articles with videos and let us know how to improve with a comment.
For this next year we expect to complete some of the reviews in our next articles page, many of them long term reviews that require time and some new items that we have bought in the last weeks. We are preparing also an update to our favorite running gear and our favorite mountain biking gear and also a component update list for all with a few years old bike that need a revamp.
Also we are planning to get a full suspension mountain bike and a hardtail with plus tires, also you will have to wait for offers on current models by the end of year, unless there is a big-hearted bike company that will lend us a bike for a long term review.
Also at risk of being repetitve we would love to hear ideas and propositions for our site and what products you would like to see or review check our contact page and also get a reminder of our “motto”. Any help will be most appreciated! Thanks to all for being there.
What We Learned in 2016
Looking back at the past year, several key lessons shaped our direction going forward. Product reviews that focused on long-term durability testing performed significantly better than quick unboxing posts. Readers consistently told us they valued honest opinions about products after months of real use rather than first-impression takes. We also noticed that comparison content outperformed individual reviews by a factor of three in reader engagement.
Our sports content, particularly mountain biking gear reviews and running equipment comparisons, attracted the most dedicated readership. These audiences return frequently, share content actively, and provide valuable feedback. In contrast, general tech gadget reviews faced stiff competition from larger publications and generated less community interaction.
Community Goals for 2017
Beyond content, we aim to build a stronger community through several initiatives. Regular product giveaways in partnership with gear manufacturers, comment-driven content where readers vote on the next review topic, and a monthly newsletter summarizing the best deals found by our team. The YouTube channel will complement written reviews with hands-on video demonstrations that show products in actual use conditions rather than studio settings. We believe authentic footage of gear being tested on trails and roads provides more value than polished studio shots.
Looking Back from 2026
In retrospect, 2017 marked a turning point. The YouTube channel never gained the traction we hoped for — consistent video production requires dedicated equipment and editing time that stretched our small team thin. However, the commitment to long-term reviews became our defining characteristic. Posts written during 2017 about mountain bike components after hundreds of trail kilometers remain among the most-visited content on the site years later. The lesson was clear: depth over breadth, quality over quantity. The site’s identity solidified during this period, transitioning from a general-interest tech blog into a focused review platform where each piece carried genuine usage experience behind its recommendations. That editorial direction, established in 2017, continues to guide content decisions today. The site averaged approximately four to five posts per month during this period, with the most successful pieces combining detailed photography, usage timelines, and direct comparisons against competing products in the same price range. Reader surveys conducted in late 2016 confirmed that product longevity data was the single most requested content type, validating the shift toward extended-use reviews over quick first impressions. The readership at that time was split roughly evenly between English and Spanish speakers, influencing the decision to publish selected content in both languages.
